Nevado was rockin’ at Crotched on Sunday. Crotched Mountain is new to Nevado and we were very happy with the staff and services it provided. Crotched Mountain began their Midnight Madness back on December 30th and has the most open hours of any ski area in the eastern US. They light their slopes 100%, spark a slopeside bonfire and their Midnight Madness Concert Series kicks in…what a great way to spend an evening of family entertainment!
We had various employees looking at the GoPro cameras and noticed several skiers and riders with GoPro’s already. What’s great about the demos is that we can show GoPro owners the latest upgrade HD Hero 2 and accessories such as the chest mount harness and rechargeable li-lon battery. Crotched Mountain also had a rail jam going on so several parents were coming in to try Yaktrax and XTR Extremes. Yaktrax has taken ice traction to the hill with a patent-pending spike design called the XTR Extreme. This traction device has a high strength chain that resists rust. The toe and heal plate are designed to prevent snow and ice build up and are flexible and sturdy. Some of the other parents didn’t realize how cold it was even though the sun was out so we offered Little Hotties toe and hand warmers.
Uvex helmets had a very popular vote amongst the customers because they liked the vented system. We carry the Sioux which is a brand new freeride helmet that is lightweight, extremely comfortable and stylish. Most of the UVEX helmets we carry have a convenient fit adjustment system so the helmets are a sure fit for most head sizes. We also carry UVEX goggles as a compliment to the helmets. Some of the goggles are designed specifically for women who want a thinner, subtle style or you can try on bright mirrored lenses that absorb harmful rays.
One of the guests identified with pistil hats which is a modern knit accessory. Pistil hats are known for creating a thoughtful design on their hats and accessories that feature flattering silhouettes and a superior fit. To go along with the Pistil hats we had some participants trying on the different collections of Bearpaw. Tom Romeo founded Bearpaw in 2001 with the intention of using nature’s sheepskin fabric which naturally regulates body temperature so your feet stay drier in the heat and warmer in the cold. We added some Superfeet premium insoles in one of the Bearpaws for someone who needed the extra support due to an ankle problem. Superfeet customers experience improved shock absorption, reduced pain and feel a more efficient stride as they walk.
RAMP is another popular demo for us. Employees were coming out of the woodwork to check on the poplar wood core skis and snowboards. RAMP invites customers to interact with them personally and purchase directly through them. This company also has a buyback program that allows you to send back your old skis or board and receive a $50 credit towards a new pair. Nevado has put on two types of bindings for men and women from 22 Designs–the performance leader in telemark bindings. We also promote Rottefella NTN bindings and Alpina Crispi Evo and Shiver NTN Boots and Alpine demo bindings by Tyrolia. We have a whole set up of accessories, skis and snowboards so check us out either online or on the slope.

We had a great day at Granite Gorge on Jan 7th. The sun was shining, the lifts were operating and the customers were happy. We met up with one of the owners, Fred, who was taking pictures and he had a big smile on his face. He was pleased to announce that the night skiing has been very popular and that the NEW lodge is continuing to grow. Granite Gorge is located just 5 miles from downtown Keene, NH and its easy to get too. In addition to the alpine conditions they offer a terrain park, tubing facilities, snow-sports school, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Customers were very interested in the awesome chicken smell coming from the Camp Chef area. From camping stoves to meat smokers & dutch ovens, Camp Chef is the way to go for all your cooking needs outdoors. An entire family was interested in trying the NTN bindings and Crispi NTN boots. Brenda was able to give them a little lesson on how to telemark ski as well. This newer style of skiing is becoming more and more popular every year. The progressive NTN system made by Rottefella gives skiers increased lateral stability, edge control and adjustable forward flex. When using the NTN binding and boots, customers experience an energy transfer from their boot to the edge of their ski. At Nevado demos we have a full run of sizes for men, women and older children. We had customers asking about the Native goggles on display. A good pair of goggles makes skiing and snowboarding much more enjoyable especially when the sunlight changes. Nevado carries the Boomer, Kicker, Pali and Riva. The most prominent feature of Native goggles is the impact-resistant polarized lens, which cuts down on the glare from snow, ice and water. The goggles are easy to put on, wear and take off. Plus Native Eyewear sunglasses and goggles have a lifetime warranty. Nevado works closely with Implus footwear and represents 5 of their products: Yaktrax, XTR Extreme, Little Hotties hand and toe warmers, SkiTrax, and Sof Sole. Implus is an innovative leader in the footwear accessory marketplace. Yaktrax gives you traction confidence on the snow or ice and stretches over everything from casual walking shoes to winter boots. Little Hotties hand and toe warmers was started back in 2005 with the idea that customers wanted quick warmth and comfort in the cold conditions. Little Hotties is the official supplier of the US ski and snowboard teams. Nevado team members invite customers into the heated trailer to try the new Sof Sole Fit system resulting in an informed purchase of their arch type. Some skiers used to wear Yaktrax on their ski boots until we showed them the new Ski Trax. Now you can protect your ski boot with the durable polyelastomer material and improve traction on the snow and ice. Speaking of improving, EFX performance technology is used by athletes all over the world to help improve their athletic performance. This sports wristband is embedded with two holograms that are made of the highest quality, non-toxic, medical grade silicone. We enjoy doing a simple balance test with customers so they can see the immediate improvements in flexibility and balance. We had two of our customers try the EFX sportsband while they were on the Indo board balance trainer. The Indo board is great for sport training and therapy. We had a physical therapist visit us and she showed one of the team members some of the great strengthening exercises that can be done on both the Indo flo exercises. Indo board now offers several products such as: the Indo board original, the Indo pro, mini pro, mini originals, kicktails, rockers, and many other accessories. The new Doodles deck is really cool and what you get is a mini gym in the comfort of your home. RAMP skis and snowboards were tried and looked at all day. After the demo the skis went on top of the truck and into the Packasport: nobody builds a stronger case for Nevado Mountain Adventures. Packasports engineered 6 packasports that all give durable and attractive rooftop storage. These systems are built with a reinforced fiberglass by using laminates of aluminum, Cormat and foam. The exterior gets an 18-mil gel coat for a glossy, high-performance finish. Packasport designed their cases with an aerodynamic system and come with custom colors that can compliment any vehicle. All models come with a limited one-year warranty. Check out the Packasport on top of the Nevado Tundra filled with heavy skis!!! Customers can barely wait to sit on the Ski Chair and bench made for outdoor enthusiasts. Ski Chair manufactures recycled sports furniture from used sports equipment and they are made in the USA. Ski Chair also makes other products such as wine racks, coat racks and tables….”Play in Style, Rest in Style”

We arrived at King Pine with an awesome demo day ahead of us. This resort is celebrating its 50 year anniversary as a family-friendly destination that is affordable with consistent snow conditions. King Pine offers a variety of terrain for all abilities and you can enjoy skiing, snowboarding, tubing and skating all at this one resort.
We hit the ground running with customers lined up and waiting at the entrance to try the latest and greatest gear we had to offer. We always have ski area instructors interested in trying Telemark and NTN boots from Crispi carried by Alpina Sports in Lebanon NH. Nevado is always interested in supporting local manufacturers, retail stores and ski areas. We started out by fitting some new team members with Yaktrax for traction and Little Hotties toe and hand warmers. Customers commented about how well our team members walked around setting up the area while using the Yaktrax on the icy patches. Did you know that Yaktrax was named after the sure-footed Tibetan Yak? Some alpine skiers were checking out our SkiTrax by Yaktrax. SkiTrax is a durable polyelastomer material that fits over your ski boots to protect them from wear while walking in the parking lot or in the lodge. It has a unique rounded design on the bottom to prevent snow build up. On another note we have been using the Sof Sole fit system for customers to easily identify their foot and arch type. These insoles have an anatomical nylon plate that provides side to side stability while maintaining flexibility and range of motion. In the past we have had heat moldable insoles but with Sof Sole’s high rebound eva foam the density changes with the arch type so there is no need to go through the steps of heating them up.
RAMP skis were another popular hit. We had one couple try out the Woodpecker and Chickadee skis and another female customer went out on the Beaver skis. We were asked by her what the difference was between the men’s Groundhog and the women’s Beaver skis. We were told by RAMP right from the start that the old model for creating women-specific skis and snowboards was shaving off some great qualities and mainly used by skiers with less athletic ability and skill. At RAMP, they create skis and boards designed to fit your ability and size so women who are athletic and strong will get the same high-performance equipment that men have therefore delivering unmatched women-specific models. We also currently carry two snowboards from RAMP: the Tumbleweed and the Sagebrush. Both boards have a quiver camber which means it has an early rise in the nose and tail with a flat mid-body to bring you through some tough runs and of course a nice edge grip to help finish out that awesome carve.
Customers loved the option from Go Pro camera to actually purchase an SD card so they could have instant gratification when bragging to their friends on Facebook about the awesome jump or run that the HD Hero2 captured. This camera is two times more powerful in every way. GoPro has produced the world’s most versatile camera and the HD Hero2 Outdoor edition comes with a vented helmet strap, head strap, curved and flat adhesive mounts and a three way pivot arm. We also carry quite a few balance training devices from Indo Board and have customers trying them out with Sara. Indo Board is a great way to get fit while becoming aware of your posture. We first have people trying the Indo Flo balance cushion to start with as a free flowing balance training workout. You should check out the new deck styles and designs that are available. Another product in the balance area is EFX performance holographic wrist bands that enhance your endurance, strength, balance and flexibility. Our next demo is next weekend at Granite Gorge on Saturday and Crotched Mountain on Sunday. See you there!!!

We held two demos at Cranmore Mountain this year during the month of December, one on the 17th and one on the 30th. We had two fantastic sunny days and customers were showing up right on time as we opened. Before the demo started Brenda went into North Conway to do a live t.v. interview at Outside TV. She talked about the demo schedule and educated customers on several of the products we carry. You can view the t.v. ad at the following link: http://youtu.be/C5UMsIsJECk

Cranmore Mountain is currently open all week for daily operations and adding new trails everyday. Did you know that in 2003 Cranmore made the headlines for becoming the first ski area east of the Mississippi river to run its groomers on alternative fuel that few other ski areas were using at that time. If you get a chance check out the history and upgrades on Cranmore’s website at www.cranmore.com

Customers stopped by the demo to check out all the cool gear. The GoPro HD Hero2 camera was a hit. We had several people ask us about the differences between the two HD camera’s. One of our customers went through the freestyle terrain park with a GoPro and got some great footage. The Cranmore events coordinator, Jay, was in line to try a new RAMP ski. Candace and Brandon set him up on an all time favorite called the Woodpecker. This ski will take you on the hard packed snow and in powder. Ramp Sports has an award winning line of skis that include twelve models for adults and kids. All of their hand-made skis come with vertically laminated poplar wood cores and they use the best available laminates, bases, sidewalls and top materials. RAMP has created a very complete offering of skis that includes everything from 115mm Big Mountain skis to Front Side Expert high speed carving skis. The have the perfect blend of rocker, reverse sidecut and traditional cambers. Other customers tried some Native Eyewear goggles. These goggles have a fascinating Glide-Loc interchangeable lens system.
This patent-tested technology allows you to quickly access all of Native’s lens options in order to adjust to the different light conditions. We had team members demonstrating Yaktrax traction devices during set up and break down. Ski area employees commented on how useful they find the ice grippers at their ski area while parking customers or running lifts. We also talk with customers and employees about the company Implus Footcare, LLC who has worked with us for a number of years. This company was founded in 1988 and took innovative products such as Little Hotties, XTR Extreme, SkiTrax, Sof Sole and Yaktrax (amongst other products) to the market and provided practical solutions at a great value for their customers. Bearpaw products were also a big hit for customers to try at the demo. Bearpaws are made from genuine sheepskin linings and have high quality suede. The outsoles have a durable rubber that offer a long lasting tread.
We had customers who tried out some Crispi boots. These boots are made from Alpina Sports, right out of Lebanon NH, and they are one of the finest manufacturers of high-end AT, NTN and Telemark boots on the market. Nevado demos provide a full run of sizes for men and women. We change around insoles and provide Superfeet in some of the boots we carry so customers feet are supported, stabilized and properly aligned. Check out our demo schedule for upcoming areas that may be close to you. Isn’t it worth trying out some gear before you buy it so you know you like it? Hope to see you there!!

Sunday December 12th was our second demo event held at Smugglers Notch. This resort is considered “the granddaddy of all family resorts” by MSNBC.com. Smuggs’ FunZone has an awesome entertainment and recreation center for all ages. While the children are playing at the entertainment center the adults can head to the pool and hot tub for some nice relaxing time. Smugglers’ Notch resort currently has 2 lifts and 6 trails open with 8-16” of snow available for some great skiing and riding. Nevado was set-up at the Sterling base where snow making was in progress most of the morning. Skiers and riders along with many of the ski instructors from Smuggs, stopped by to check out the new skis and boards from RAMP. One customer returned after an one hour demo, raving about the Tumbleweed snowboard. He said the board was great for switch with the rocker tip and tail, and maneuvered wonderfully when transitioning between the groomers and the bumps. Another customer reported that the Groundhog ski made quick turns despite the length and his friend replied that the Frenzy flew down the slope with minimal effort on his part. With the SKI CHAIR coat rack set up along with the ski chair, we had many customers admiring these products. We even found one customer lounging in the chair, almost asleep, in the bright sun. The UVEX helmets and goggles were a hit with the kids. The bright colors attracted the youth and the adjustable dials fit perfect so parents were happy that we could minimize the amount of time fitting helmets. It was a perfect day for SKIWAX. We had a few people come to us saying how sticky it was, we applied some of the warm weather wax to their skis. They came back telling us how much of a difference the wax made. We carried 4 SUPERFEET models, traditional green and blue. For people with especially cold feet we had merino white wooley, and red hot and hot pink with a mylar heat reflective sole.
The Smugglers staff was great to work with as many of the instructors had training and stopped in on their lunch breaks to speak to our team about new products. Saturday night most of our demo team attended the Brewfest and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Saturday, December 11th was the first demo day of the year hosted by Jay Peak. Snow and cold temperatures arrived with us on Friday so Jay Peak was expanding its snow-making and allowing skiers and riders at the State Side slopes. The Nevado demo team took a tour of the new hotel, “pump house waterpark” and “ice haus arena” Friday night. The new indoor waterpark is HUGE and a great idea for families who want to relax after a hard day on the snow. We had a good turn out Saturday with customers trying a mixture of products we offered. We had a variety of bindings for all types of skiers along with fantastic skis from RAMP. Everyone who returned after an hour demo said that the “razor-cut” sidecut on the skis gave an incredible edge grip on the slopes. We had some inquires about the differences between the GOPRO HD and the new GOPRO HD2. The waterproof housing was taken on the slope through a snow gun blast and proved to protect the camera. We were able to demonstrate how good CAMP CHEF makes food taste, especially in the smoker. We had customers come in from the parking lot smelling the steam and wood chips cooking a pork roast and chicken wings. Our team members put on BEARPAW boots for the day so we could talk with people about the different collections that they offer. We also had a great display of BEARPAW boots, slippers and casual footwear with several sizes and types for people to try. Team members also wore YAKTRAX over the Bearpaws to help negotiate the icy parking lot. In addition skiers were introduced to the SKITRAX that easily fits on all Alpine ski boots. Customers were amazed at how well the skitrax protected their ski boot sole. LITTLE HOTTIES toe and hand warmers were needed throughout the day. They are the proud sponsor of the US Ski and Snowboarding team this year. Customers were brought into our heated trailer for a training on how to fit themselves on a SOFSOLE insole. We had people stand on a board that shows what type of arch they have. This product has insoles specifically designed for men and women along with specific designs made for the different types of arches. The INDO board demonstrations were very popular within the demo site. We had several customers ask about how it helped with balance and stability. We challenged people to try to stay on the boards as long as possible without touching the ground. One customer stayed on the INDO board for over 10 minutes. The demo team members were in training Friday night and learned about the several sunglass styles and goggles made by NATIVE EYEWEAR. We had a customer who bought some Native goggles a few years ago and he stated that he had some trouble changing out the lens system. One of our team members showed this customer the newer “LocJaw” interchangeable system by demonstrating to him how quickly and efficiently he can change out of the goggles and he was fully impressed by that. While skiing with another customer Brenda noticed on the slope that the NTN binding was present on another skier so she talked to them about trying the Crispi EVO boot we had in stock. The customer was impressed by the thermo-moldable liner that we cooked up for him. He said that this boot felt a lot better now that we put the liner through the heating process. He mentioned that he didn’t have that done before and noticed a big difference.
Another team member was working with some other customers on the EFX bracelet by giving them the balance test. After customers tried the test they took out the EFX bracelet to ski and came back raving about how they could stay more focused on the ski line and that they had better balance on their skis while skiing in the glades.

Here at Nevado Mountain Adventures we’ve been creating brand awareness and doing consumer demos for 29 years. We continue to manage 20 events from coast to coast starting in the East and ending in the West.

Earlier this year, we kicked off our marketing efforts by going to consumer trade shows in Seattle Washington, Portland Oregon and then ending on Veteran’s weekend in Boston Massachusetts. These shows are a fun and unique way for us to inform our customers on the markets hottest products. We set up a booth at the two trade shows out west and gave out brochures to hundreds of consumers with the seasons schedule of events. Our partnering ski areas and manufacturers were also at the show distributing brochures and free swag. We offered prize giveaways like a GoPro cameras, Yaktraxs and Little Hotties hand warmers. We also passed out thousands of opportunities to our consumers who were looking to try before they buy at their favorite ski slope. Check out what other events were happening at www.skifever.com or www.bewisports.com.

This season, Nevado is representing a new company call RAMP (Riders, Artists, Musicians Project) out of Salt Lake City with some skis and snowboards that will take you where you want to go with amazing grace and power in your turns. Nevado is so excited to be working with RAMP and all the people involved. We believe in the product and have given it our 100% test to make sure that YOUR RIDE is what you want. Checkout www.rampsports.com to see their lineup of skis and boards. We bet their going to be the most interesting graphics you’ll see flying down the mountain this season.

This year we’ll begin our demos in the East around December and January. You’ll find us trekking through Vermont and New Hampshire and eventually coming back for one weekend in March on the 2-4. We then continue our route to the West in January for the Outdoor Retailer (OR) in Salt lake City. Then its off to Denver for the Ski Industries of America (SIA) trade shows where we will meet most of our clients in the outdoor world. Finally in February we begin the West tour in Oregon, Washington and finally finishing off the season at Mt. Shasta California around mid March. Interested in checking us out? Come join us for a free demo! Checkout www.nevado.com for more details.

Burke was our final demo of the year and the Nevado Eastern team was proud to be there. This mountain has always brought a busy spring demo to us…and I mean really busy. It is a skiers mountain for racers who are training for Olympic trials. It has a steep pitch and lots of open trees where you’ll find hardcore Telemark skiers in the woods. Who says the east doesn’t have backcountry runs? It was an NTN demo more than any other time I have ever been to a demo there. Customers waited for people to return in order to try NTN demos which hadn’t been available in the past by anyone else.
The first day involved our annual JAG (Jobs for American Graduates) event with a middle school-aged students. Every year, for the past four years, Nevado has provided this program an opportunity to join us at the ski area so kids can see and shadow the different jobs Nevado and ski areas provide. They helped the team set up and break down the event as part of the training. We had a beautiful day and a great group of kids. On Saturday we had a very busy day with people all wanting to try everything we had in stock. We couldn’t have asked for a better ending to a great year. We did 21 demos coast to coast and plan to have many more starting this summer. Keep checking our the website for more information about summer and fall demos. Now we can celebrate together the close of it 28h year.

Thank You Brenda and the Nevado demo team east and west
